WESLEY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION-KUMASI
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Wesley College of Education, is a Public Teacher Educational Institution in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi under the New Teacher Education Reform. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following Senior Management positions at the College.

  1. VICE PRINCIPAL

The Position/Job Description
As Vice Principal, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Principal with the overall management, administration, and academic and disciplinary issues of the College. Your responsibilities will align with the Colleges of Education Act 2012 (Act 847) and other regulatory provisions, under the guidance of the College’s Governing Council.
Qualification and Experience

The applicant:
• Must have a Doctor of Philosophy in the relevant area of specialisation
• Must be of a rank NOT below Senior Lecturer in a University or a College of Education comparable rank or analogous tertiary education institution
• Must have exemplary character and high degree of personal integrity.
• Must be a distinguished master teacher and scholar in Teaching and Learning.
• Must have a minimum of five (5) years relevant post-qualification experience in a senior management position.
• Must have in-depth knowledge of challenges facing Colleges of Education in Ghana and readiness to propose solutions.

Term of Office
The appointment is full-time. The applicant should be able to complete at least one term of three (3) years before attaining the compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

  1. COLLEGE SECRETARY

The Position/Job Description
The College Secretary is the Head of the College Secretariat. The Office of the College Secretary is in charge of all administrative, secretarial and personnel matters of the College, which include:
• assisting the Principal in the administration and management of the College;
• ensuring the functioning of all Boards and Standing Committees of the College.
• acting as the Secretary to the College Council, all Committees of Council as well as all Statutory Committees of the College.
• human resource management;
• keeping and maintaining inventory of the college’s assets;
• management and development of the college’s assets;
• administration and organisation of admissions;
• organisation of examinations and publication of results;
• organisation of all official ceremonies including matriculation, congregation and convocation.

Qualification and Experience
• Applicant must hold a good first degree and a postgraduate degree, preferably in Administration and Management related area.
• Must have served as a Deputy Secretary in a College of Education or comparable grade in a similar institution/organisation for at least four (4) years.
• Applicant must possess strong IT Skills and be familiar relevant Administrative software.
• Applicant must be analytical, critical, result-oriented, innovative and visionary, among others.
• Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and supervisory skills.
• Be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  1. FINANCE OFFICER

The Position/Job Description
The Finance Officer is the Chief Accounting Officer of the College and the Chief Financial Advisor to the Principal. He/She has general responsibility for the administration of the financial affairs of the College that will ensure its financial health and he/she exercises direct superintendence over all accounting officers. The Finance Officer:
• Is responsible for collecting all legitimate revenue due to the College.
• Exercises control over expenditure in line with the College’s objectives and budgets.
• Has the duty of preparing the annual budget of the College for presentation to the appropriate governing bodies for approval and implementation.
• Is also responsible for ensuring that the financial statements of the College are drawn up in accordance with the law establishing the Colleges, the Statutes, applicable accounting standards and all other Regulations approved by the College as well as all other relevant national laws.
• liaises with the appointed external auditors to get the College’s financial statements audited.

Qualification and Experience
Applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting, or related area and must be a Chartered Accountant. The person must have served as a Deputy Finance officer in a College of Education or comparable grade in a similar institution/organisation for at least four (4) years.

Applicant must also show evidence of the following:
• Be analytical, critical, result-oriented, innovative, and visionary;
• Be a good team player;
• Be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
• Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills; and
• Possess strong IT skills and be familiar with relevant accounting software.
